History & Heritage

Chamshen Village is a historic settlement in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, once closely associated with the Namgyal royal dynasty. Along with the neighboring village of Charasa, its residents served the royal family by maintaining the nearby Charasa Palace and fulfilling important royal duties. Although floods and river erosion destroyed much of its ancient heritage over the centuries, Chamshen continues to preserve its rich cultural legacy and traditional way of life.
