Gya Village is regarded as one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the Ladakh region of India. Located about 35 km southeast of Leh along the Manali–Leh route, the village has a history that stretches back more than a thousand years. It has long served as an important stop on ancient trade routes connecting Ladakh with Tibet and Central Asia, contributing to its cultural and historical significance. According to local tradition, Gya was once an early political and cultural center in Ladakh before the rise of Leh as the region's capital.
